Scrivener 3.1.2 serial10/27/2022 ![]() The secondary objective was to determine the effects of in vitro digestion on their AA. We therefore assessed the AA of three to five DS each from pomegranate, milk thistle, green tea, grapes, goji, and acai using four widely used standard methods. The antioxidant activity (AA) of fruits and vegetables has been thoroughly investigated but less is known about the AA of dietary supplements (DS). These methods and techniques have been extensively and critically reviewed with anticipated future perspectives towards the maximum utilization of the citrus waste. This article presents both aspects of extraction methods, i.e., on a small laboratory scale and on an industrial mass scale. In the present article, the various methods of extraction, conventional and modern, as well as separation and isolation of individual bioactive compounds from the extraction mixture and their determination have been reviewed. In addition to being a substantial source of economy, it is an ideal and sustainable and renewable resource for obtaining bioactive compounds and co-products for food and pharmaceutical industries. ![]() In recent years, citrus cultivation and the production of processed foods have become a major agricultural industry. This waste still consists of substantial quantities of bioactive compounds that cause environmental pollution and are harmful to the ecosystem because of their high biological oxygen demand. On consumption or processing, approximately 50% of the fruit remains as inedible waste, which includes peels, seeds, pulp, and segment residues. Results of this study suggest that mamey fruit is a good source of carotenoids and its inclusion in the diet is recommended.Ĭitrus contains a range of highly beneficial bioactive compounds, such as polyphenols, carotenoids, and vitamins that show antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and help in building the body's immune system. Concentration of δ-tocopherol was 360.0 μg/100 g fw. Total carotenoid content was 1127.9 μg β-carotene/100 g fw with β-carotene being the main contributor, in addition to lutein, and violoxanthin. Total soluble phenols content was 28.5 mg GAE/100 g fw, being p-hydroxybenzoic acid as the main phenolic that was identified. ![]() Hydrophilic extracts of mamey fruit showed higher antioxidant capacity than the lipophilic portion. Phenolics, carotenoids and δ-tocopherol were quantified and identified by HPLC–DAD–Mass Spectrometry (LC–MS), and DPPH and FRAP assays were used to evaluate antioxidant capacity. Moore & Stearn) with regard to their antioxidant capacity and phytochemical profile. Therefore, the objective of this study was the characterization of mamey fruit (Pouteria sapota Jacq. Several fruits have been characterized so far for their antioxidant and health properties but there is still limited information on fruits from the tropic. Carotenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, and vitamins E and C, are among these phytochemicals. Mortar prisms prepared with 25 % replacement of Portland cement by acid activated smectite produced 93 % compressive strength of plain Portland cement mortar.Mamey Phytochemicals Antioxidant capacity HPLC–MS analysis Phytochemical compounds in fruits and vegetables have gained great importance in the last few years because of the increasing evidence suggesting their antioxidant and prevention of chronic diseases. The optimum sample was activated for 8 h using 5 M HCl at 90 ☌. This results in the formation of a silica-rich amorphous phase that exhibits substantial pozzolanic activity compared to the same clay sample that had undergone calcining treatment at 850. Acid activation causes dehydroxylation of smectite clay, followed by leaching of octahedral cations. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to determine the acid dissolution mechanism and characterise the activated clay mineral structure. The activation treatment used HCl at different concentrations, using different times and at a range of temperatures. ![]() This research has investigated the structural changes and pozzolanic activity produced in acid activated smectite clay. ![]()
